Bioaccessibility of different types of phenolic compounds co-encapsulated in alginate/chitosan-coated zein nanoparticles

Simultaneous administration of different phenolic compounds might produce a synergistic effect offering greater activity against chronic non-communicable diseases. This has prompted significant interest in developing nanodelivery systems that simultaneously encapsulate bioactives and protect them from gastrointestinal digestion. work aimed at evaluating the suitability zein (ZN) zein/polysaccharide-based nanoparticles to co-encapsulate types understand how increasing complexity nanoparticulate affected bioaccessibility polyphenols. Two acids, two glycosylated flavonoids, three flavonoid aglycones were successfully co-encapsulated systems. The encapsulation efficiency loaded on ZN ranged between 95.3 98.5%. incorporation coating-layers (alginate – algZN- chitosan –alg/chiZN-) significantly increased acids flavonoids. by least 50.2%. Enhanced flavonoids was observed upon coating with alginate, while greatest polyphenol seen for alg/chiZN (over 65.8%). polar followed Therefore, developed could be potentially useful improve their bioaccessibility.
